World Cruisers on Rarotonga Today!

"Raro" means "down" and "Tonga" means "South" and that's where our World Cruisers are today.  The island is part of the Cook Island chain in French Polynesia. Surrounded by a shallow lagoon and then a reef before trailing off to deep water, it should be the perfect place for snorkeling and diving.  The shore excursion list offered many such outings along with Nautilus subs and glass-bottom boats for taking in the beauty and diversity of the sea life there. Fishing, sailboating, and whale-watching also look like terrific recreational opportunities.  Now, being a Sunday ...Read More...

World Cruisers in Paradise

Hi all!  Sorry for no reports all week — I’ve been visiting grandkids in the Portland, Oregon area.  Had a lovely time, but now it’s time to get back home and get back to work! Well, where on earth are our lucky World Cruisers today? Enjoying another day in paradise —  Tahiti, French Polynesia!  Today is the last day at Bora Bora, then it’s on to the Cook Islands (Rarotonga) on Sunday. Click here for a wonderful information page that will tell you all about this amazing island nation. If I were there, I would definitely have s...Read More...

World Cruisers Enjoying Life at Sea

It won't be until Wednesday that our World Cruisers arrive in Tahiti, so between now and then they are living the Life at Sea -- days filled with classes, reading and relaxing, writing, and enjoying all the onboard amenities and entertainment. Warm, sunny days will be perfect for spending time at the pool, strolling along the promenade deck, and playing outdoor games on the top decks.  There are lots of games and fun competitions to keep the journey interesting and lively, that's for sure. I imagine I would be trying to catch up on movies that I missed...Read More...

World Cruisers on Easter Island Today

What a special day for our World Cruise passengers!  They are among the few Earthlings to visit mysterious and remote Easter Island.  Here is a link to Wikipedia, where you can learn many fascinating facts about the island's history. I am imagining standing near the shore, gazing up at a row of solemn, silent statues.  Can't you practically hear the wind and feel the warm, moist Pacific air?  It's an eerie feeling, contemplating the culture of the people who dreamt up these carvings and the various tragedies that befell them over the centuries that follo...Read More...

Lazy Days at Sea...

Well, I think our World Cruise passengers are actually staying quite busy with onboard classes and entertainment!  They have a few days at sea, then arrive on Thursday at Easter Island -- one of the most mysterious and remote islands in the world.  I hope they get some awesome photos of the giant statue-heads and come back with intriguing stories about how they were made and what happened to the people.  I know they completely deforested the entire island (cut down every last tree!) -- I'll do a bit of research and write about it on Thursday. Meanwhile, as we live vicariousl...Read More...

World Cruiser, in Her Own Words...

We are on our way after a short flight to Ft. Lauderdale and having a wonderful meal with our friends Carrie, Doug and Katie.  We boarded our ship and started our 110 day journey around the world.  It is 4:30 am and I can’t sleep so I thought I would give you all an update.  The ship is exquisite, the food excellent ( very important to me) Ha! and the people, fascinating.  For those that know the toil, anguish and research I did to get to this point, we are breathing easier knowing all is well.  Yesterday was our first day at sea.  Today we are visiting C...Read More...

Amsterdam passengers at Manta, Ecuador today...

Mmmm...sounds like a lovely, undiscovered seaside village!  Not sure what our world adventurers are up to today, but one of the tours they might have taken is a city tour and visit to local artisans, including the makers of Panama hats.  Yes, this is really the place where Panama hats are made -- and what a fine souvenir one of them would make (and useful as our passengers sail into the tropics of the Southern Pacific). I was browsing around looking for information about Manta, which is located on the Pacific Coast between Guayaquil and Quito, and found that some ...Read More...

Panama Canal Transit for World Cruise Passengers

Today and tomorrow, our World Cruise passengers will cross from the warm Caribbean Sea to the vast Pacific Ocean!  To learn more about this amazing man-made Wonder of the World, click here for link to Wikipedia.     A few years ago I was playing around on the internet and got into the Princess Cruise Line website's "bridge webcam."  There, I discovered the Coral Princess about to enter the Panama Canal!  So for the whole afternoon, I "watched" her slowly glide along -- it was just amazing to see such a big ship barely fitting into the channel! Now, the...Read More...

A Day in Costa Rica for World Cruise Passengers

I'm sure today was a very exciting one for our Amsterdam passengers in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica!  Personally, I think the tram ride through the jungle treetops would be just the thing! Early in the morning, the Amsterdam will begin her transit of the Panama Canal, and they will get to experience one of the major man-made wonders of the world. But Costa Rica is surely one of Earth's great natural wonders, containing 5% of the world's biodiversity!  An amazing number of monkeys, turtles, frogs, butterflies, orchids, exotic trees, and thousands of other species inh...Read More...

Amsterdam World Cruise...

Well, it's Saturday already -- another luxurious day at sea after our World Cruise passengers spent a fabulous day in Grand Cayman yesterday! They got the thrill of a lifetime swimming with wild stingrays and snorkeling over magical-looking coral reefs and their colorful denizens.  Shore Trips has an especially nice tour (click here to see).  Adding in a couple of hours at the legendary "7-Mile Beach" they had a perfect tropical island day! Today, while journeying toward the Panama Canal, it would be great to grab a book from the library and hang out by the pool...Read More...

First Day at Sea of the Amsterdam's World Cruise

Let's see...what would I do on my first day of my World Cruise?  I think I would start by exploring the ship -- checking out all the great places to hang out, see what's in the library, get a list of services that are available in the spa and the gym, start to get to know the staff and my fellow passengers... I would take advantage of as many things as possible that are listed in the daily program -- and I would go to my first evening show!  Tell us -- what things do YOU like to do on your first sea day?    Read More...
