Top Honeymoons of 2009

May 26th 2009

After the stresses of wedding planning and the excitement of the big day, the top choice for this year’s honeymoon get-away is, unsurprisingly, a romantic, relaxing cruise!  Especially appealing to Texas couples are the easy, budget-friendly Carnival cruises that sail year-round from Galveston.  Most popular is the Carnival Conquest, setting sail every Sunday to ports-of-call in tropical Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel.  Surrounding the days in port, where couples can share romantic adventures or down-time on sugary beaches, are leisurely days onboard with an enormous variety of pleasures – everything from soothing, private spa treatments to high-energy nightclub dancing.

The next favorite honeymoon vacation is the “fly-and-stay package” at an all-inclusive resort.  Whereas a cruise includes all meals and entertainment, an all-inclusive resort also provides the soft drinks, bottled water, and alcoholic beverages along with the food and fun.  Top destinations for Texas couples are Mexico and Jamaica because the airfares and travel times are reasonable.  There is a huge variety of resorts – every kind of property from those that specialize in family-friendly fun to swanky, secluded couples-only retreats.  The beaches and water sports are outstanding!   With this type of package, a couple can customize their travel schedule and length of stay, then craft a truly unique experience with their own selection of tours and activities.

For a different kind of romantic escape, adventurous honeymooners are choosing an Alaskan cruise this summer. Alaska is a great get-away from Texas’ heat, and the weather is predictable compared to Caribbean areas vulnerable to hurricanes. Prices have never been better, so this may be the year to share the romance of scenic wilderness and wildlife viewing, and catch some sun and sand next year on an anniversary vacation!  There are many, many ways to personalize an Alaskan cruise to make it any kind of honeymoon – adventurous, with glacier hiking and wildlife-viewing tours – romantic, with train rides and scenic walks – or perhaps cultural, with native heritage tours and historical sites.

Cruises and all-inclusive resorts are easy and relaxing for honeymooners because they only have to unpack once, then they can just sit back and enjoy themselves, doing as much or as little as they want.  Somebody else drives, cooks, and cleans; and there are no stresses about where and when to eat, currency exchange, language barriers, or getting around in an unfamiliar place.
