Jamaica! Beautiful and exotic, with its own personality, food, and music. From the natural wonders to the charm of the people -- you'll love every bit of it. But here are some things you should know:
1. It takes 4 hours to fly there from Dallas. Ask for water as soon as you get on the plane, because you'll be nearly dead of thirst by the time the beverage cart comes around.
2. The main road in Jamaica is NOT DONE. They also drive on the left, so it is not a good idea to rent a car and drive around on your own.
3. Dunn's River Falls closes at 4:00. This was a major disappointment to me.
4. When staying at an all-inclusive resort, get up and have breakfast because they don't serve lunch until 12:30. Take a nap later if you have to.
5. Dressing up means no shorts and no flip-flops.
6. In a lot of the resorts, clothing really is optional!
7. Wine doesn't really do very well in Jamaica. Go ahead and experiment with those exotic concoctions.
8. People there are very sweet, but service is not speedy.
9. They are crazy about discos! Ridiculous!
10. If you've stopped in Jamaica on a cruise, you should get out and do something, even if it's just a "beach break."
