The Countdown is On!
The countdown to Daylight Savings Time, that is! This year it happens Sunday morning, March 8 -- I think it should be a national holiday!
It's the day that:
I can start getting home after work and actually do my walking or work in the garden because it's still light outside!
People are out doing things, so they come by and take advantage of our evening office hours!
My husband becomes more enthusiastic about cooking out on the grill because he can see what he's doing!
I'm not running errands or shopping after work in the dark!
I'm going to celebrate by getting some tomato and pepper plants, basil, and bean seeds to plant (my grandson Liam said he would come over and help, too). Of course, I'll first have to get out there and finish yanking out all the weeds -- there's something in the bed that sort of looks like marigolds, but it's not, and my very most hated enemy -- ornamental grass! I read about something natural for weed control (corn meal gluten?) but I'll have to ask for some help at the nursery because I have no idea what I'm doing.
I'd like to garden organically, but it may not be possible if the assault of weeds and bugs is as bad as it was last year. And what are those disgusting giant green caterpillars that gobble up tomato plants?!?! The mockingbirds eat everything else -- why don't they eat those caterpillars? I'm going to arrange the tomato cages a bit differently so that I can hang some netting over them -- maybe that will do the trick.
So what are you doing with your extra hours of daylight starting next week?
