Rum Libations for Pirates

April 22nd 2009

Before desperate, destitute Somalis decided that hijacking cargo boats was the best way to solve their financial problems, REAL PIRATES had a notorious, yet romantic lore in our culture.  I was thinking of hosting a Caribbean Night in honor of "Talk Like a Pirate Day" in September, but now I'm wondering if the fun has been spoiled by real-life, not-so-fun recent events in Somalia.

Let me know what you think -- a party with a pirate theme, or something else (I'll be happy to accept suggestions).   Meanwhile, here are some Rum Libation recipes that I am going to offer as refreshment anyway:

Skin & Bones:

1 ounce spiced rum, 2 ounces diet Coke and juice squeezed from 1/2 a small lime

Pirate Treasure:

1 ounce light rum, 2 ounces pineapple juice, 1/2 ounce coconut milk,  and juice squeezed from 1/4 of a medium orange

Enjoy!
