Hope Everyone Had a Wonderful Christmas!
Did you have a good day? It was great to see my folks and my sisters and one of my brothers and an aunt and uncle and a few cousins and their kids! My Mom always fixes a great meal with lots of goodies for "grazing" and other people bring various treats and drinks.
I don't know how she does it, but my sister Debby (she lives in Kansas City) makes the most fabulously decorated sugar cookies -- they are almost (almost) too fancy to eat. Becky (my Wichita sister) makes things like jewelry, soap, fancy cards, and decorated pots. This year she gave me awesome plants from her greenhouse -- one I especially love is "ajuga," a ground cover that seems to be spreading very nicely in my landscaping -- and I hope it eventually takes over the whole area!
Anyway, we spent the day visiting, playing with kids, watching silly Christmas movies, eating, and playing some ridiculous version of Trivial Pursuit (I never knew before how many stupid sitcoms there were in the 80s!).
Hope you had a good one, too -- leave me a comment if you have a minute -- and let's talk soon! Yours -- Janet

Here is a recipe for you to try. It will warm you right up on a cold winter night:Roasted Vegetables.Preheat oven to 400 degrees.Clean and chop the following veggies:Baby CarrotsParshipsRed or Green Bell PepperPotatoesSweet PotatoesOnionLeeks (optional, I just happen to love them).(Make as many or as few as you need for the number of people you will be serving).Pour 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil in a deep pan. Toss the veggies in, and stir.Pour 1 to 2 Tablespoons of Poppy Seeds over the vegetables and stir.Roast in oven for 40-50 minutes, depending on your oven, stir every 15 minutes, until your desired firmness is achieved. While the veggies are roasting, in a small bowl, mix 1/2 Cup of orange juice and 1/4 Cup of Marsella, OR cooking wine, OR white distilled vinegar (use which ever you prefer, or whatever one you have handy), add 1 Tablespoon of mustard, and 1/2 clove of garlic .Blend until smooth.Right before you are ready to serve, remove veggies from oven (turn oven off), pour the orange juice mixture over the veggies, stir and top off with a bit of brie if you like. It's very tasty! This is one of my favorite dishes. Enjoy!
