Good Reasons to Book Your Next Vacation Early
Hello all! I probably beg for this every summer, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider booking your next vacation early so you can get what you want.
It happened again, naturally: a family has waited too long to decide on their dream Alaska cruise and now they can't get the ship, sailing date, nor type of cabin that they want. And that's not even to mention the now-much-higher prices!
By the time we see a date with the accomodation they need at a price within their budget, we are well into September and of course by then the kids are back in school.
I admit I haven't been working in a corporate environment for a while, but don't you have to set your vacation dates by seniority and/or on a first-come basis? And if you don't take your vacation days this year you don't get to roll them over to next year (and you don't get paid instead, either)?
That's the feedback I get from people I know, but I would welcome any and all comments that could enlighten me about current corporate practices!
If it were me, I would plan ahead and be the first one to grab dibs on my vacation dates -- why should other people get to decide for me when I can take off?!?!?
Another good reason: if I have already been granted the dates and put down a deposit on my trip, then other things that come up have to work around that -- once again, other people's plans don't get to have a say-so about MY plans.
In the example above, one of the things that held the family back from getting in on a cruise with the desirable room and price was that they had committed to watching someone else's house and pets that week! What if THEY had been the ones with plans instead? Then the other people would have been the ones who had to adjust their schedule.
Well, all of the 2011 sailings are set now and open for booking, so there is no reason to NOT start planning. You don't even have to worry about missing a sale later (I suspect this is a tacit concern) because I'll lower your rate if the price goes down in the meantime! You can at least get your deposit in and hold the space/price so you don't end up stressing about it later.
