Comparison Study -- Interesting FYI
Posted Mon, Mar 8th 2010, 13:43As I always say, "I do the research so you don't have to!" This weekend I found an ad in the Dallas Morning News for a shopping club called "DFWblastoff.com." They were advertising United Vacations packages for 25% plus $50 off, and since I had never heard of them before, I thought I would check it out.
From the site's opening page, it looks like they are more interested in having you sign up friends and relatives than anything else, but I waded through the muck and found the United Vacations link and put in a sample package. I picked the Occidental Grand Xcaret for 4 nights (it's a place I love to send honeymooners in particular).
The total for 2 came back as $2355.28. OK, not bad, I thought.
Then I went to one of my package booking engines and pulled up United Vacations there. Sure enough, they had the same package at about 10% higher -- $2632.28. So although "blastoff" did NOT in fact have a 25% discount, there was certainly a significant savings on their site.
OK, now the interesting part -- also on my booking engine are other package operators, including Funjet, so I plugged in the same dates and resort there. Guess what -- Funjet's price was $1865.28 -- now THAT'S a huge difference!
But if you don't have someone to look out for you and check out all your options for you, how are you supposed to know?????
This was just a research project, but over on the True Stories page you can see real-life examples of how I saved my clients hundreds of dollars on their cruises and packages. Check it out -- then give me a call if you'd like me to help you save money, too.
