Annual Christmas Poem -- The City on the Sea
The City on the Sea
By Janet McLaren
The City on the Sea has sailed us far away
To exotic isles of sandy coasts where graceful palm trees sway.
We may swim among the fishes, climb bedazzling waterfalls,
Or repose on silky beaches doing not a thing at all.
O! The people do delight us! O! These islands of such charm!
Photographs of memories and gifts to carry home!
Then we celebrate our City — gliding sleekly o’er the ocean —
Returning from our shore-side trysts to imbibe her magic potion.
She’s a puzzle, this fair City — an adventure to discover!
A work of art, a cozy nook, or new friend around each corner.
Lilting music buoys our steps, lulling motion soothes our slumber,
And we treasure warming breezes that no worries can encumber.
We stroll high above the waters and we dine on fancy foods.
We dance and laugh the days away and share romantic moods.
And we hardly bear to do it, for the moment comes too soon —
We take our leave, but ever dream of sailing with the moon.
